History and facts
Founded by the late Justice Shehbaz Khan, GBCCI began its journey as the Northern Areas Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NACCI). It was the first government-approved trade body in the region, established to safeguard the interests of local traders and promote trade activities with neighboring countries, particularly China.
Justice Shehbaz Khan’s visionary leadership saw the Chamber achieve national recognition during his decade-long tenure as its unopposed president. In acknowledgment of his contributions, he was honored as Life Chairman upon stepping down in 2006.
GBCCI Achievements
The GBCCI has successfully addressed critical challenges, including regional energy shortages, by initiating collaborations with Chinese authorities. These efforts have led to the operationalization of the Naltar Power Project (18 MW) and planned phases for additional projects such as the Guro Power Project. The Chamber is also actively promoting gemstone mining and processing, particularly focusing on cutting, polishing, and finishing techniques to elevate the region's reputation in national and international markets. Additionally, the GBCCI is advancing agribusiness and horticultural development through targeted projects in GB.
