OUR HISTORY

Late Justice Shehbaz Khan will be remembered for his endeavors and endless efforts for the establishment of this institution in 1995 The Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Gilgit has been established and started its functions here with effect from 15th February 1995 under section 3 of the Trade Organizations Ordinance 1961 (XLV of 1961) vide license No. 44 Ministry of Commerce, Government of Pakistan.

It was for the first time in the history of Gilgit Baltistan and then NAs, that individual efforts rendered by the Founder President  Late Justice Shehbaz Khan gave rise to the establishment of NACCI. Those unforgettable services from Late President Shehbaz Khan  gifted people of Northern Areas the first Recognized, government approved Trade body , that came into being  for the protection of local traders and giving boost to the trading activities with bordering Peoples Republic of China.From the very  first brick to the whole stemmed institution, the Gilgit Baltistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry was raised from scratch to an institution with a repute country wide. Late Justice Shehbaz Khan remained UN-opposed president of this chamber for ten years consecutively. In 2006, he stepped down because of his commitments towards  his personal issues, and the GBCCI honored him by declaring him Life Chairman of GBCCI. 

In 2010 when Northern Areas were given name the Gilgit Baltistan, NACCI nomenclature was likewise changed to GBCCI, and thereafter when other chambers of commerce came into being, now it has got the tag of Gilgit Chamber of Commerce & Industry with a membership base of more than 6000 registered firms/individuals/companies.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To issue Visa recommendation letters to the respective Embassies of the deserving members.
To issue Certificate of Origin and other required documents to the Exporters.
To issue membership Certificates and Identity Cards to the Regular Members.
To issue information letters on demand, with regard to Import/Export business and other related information’s/documents.
To settle all kind of disputes if created between and within Chamber Members.
The GBCCI is providing the facility of Pak-China Border Pass to its regular members. The issuing authority of Pak-China Border Pass is the Chief Secretary Govt. of Gilgit-Baltistan but the recommending authority is GBCCI, which recommends the said cases in respect of regular members who are doing legal business of Import/Export. The Pak-China Border Pass is an important document which is being used in lieu of multiple visa.
It is a fact that there is shortage of electricity in the entire region of Gilgit-Baltistan and due to the shortage there is no any industry functioning here so far. To solve this problem the GBCCI tried to contact Chinese authorities and as result the Naltar Power Project of 18 MW has approved and started functioning. The Next phase at Guro Power Project will also be started in a short period of time and GBCCI is also in contact with foreign companies to build such projects to full fill the energy crises.
The GBCCI is trying to promote with regard to Gemstone, Minerals and Mining fields especially exploration of precious and semi precious stones and the important matter is their cutting, polishing and finishing.  The GBCCI is in progress to promote and introduce Horti-business sectors, with Agribusiness Development and diversification project of Gilgit-Baltistan.
To introduce The Gemstone of Gilgit-Baltistan in the National and International markets through exhibitions / trade fairs etc.

1.    DECLARATION OF GILGIT-BALTISTAN AS SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE.
2.    EXEMPTION OF DUTIES ON IMPORT OF LPG AND COAL FROM CHINA & CENTRAL ASIA.
3.    LINKING OF GILGIT-BALTISTAN WITH NATIONAL GRID.
4.    CONSTRUCTION OF TAJIKISTAN ROAD.
5.    OPENING OF KKH WHOLE YEAR.
6.    CONSTRUCTION OF INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN GILGIT.
7.    RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF TRADERS DUE TO ATTABAD LAKE.
8.    ESTABLISHMENT OF FOOD PROCESSING ZONE IN GILGIT-BALTISTAN.
